HOW TO AVOID SENDING SMS SPAM
SMS spam is any junk message delivered to a mobile phone as text messaging through the Short Message Service (SMS). Therefore, the word “Spam” as applied to SMS means “Unsolicited Bulk SMS“.
Unsolicited means that the Recipient has not granted verifiable permission for the message to be sent. Bulk means that the message is sent as part of a larger collection of messages, all having substantively identical content.
In 2016, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) mandated telecommunications to implement the Do-Not- Disturb (DND) feature to enable their subscribers block spam messages. So it’s not surprising that a large number of subscribers have activated the feature. This fact was disclosed by the NCC Chairman; Prof Umar Garba at the recently concluded 2018 Mobile World Congress held in Spain that about 9 million subscribers have activated the DND service.
In compliance with the directives of NCC, our service providers has blacklisted some words/contents as SPAM and as such, messages contained same words or sender IDs will not be delivered. You are therefore advised to avoid same in the contents of your messages for effective delivery. Find below the lists of SPAM FILTERING RESTRICTIONS from our service providers.
1. Some Sender IDs banned by Network Providers:
MTN, GLO, AIRTEL, 9MOBILE, FBI, CIA, UbaBank, GTBANK, EFCC, First Bank, GTBank, CBN, EquityBank, MOBILE MONEY, Phone numbers, and etc.
If you use any of these Sender IDs, our system will replace it with ‘Fraud-419’
2. Words banned from your bulk SMS content:
Verification, Code, call, promo, won call, prize call, promo prize call, offer, congrats, win and etc.
If you use any of these words, your messages may or may not deliver.
They are all banned to prevent the activities of scammers who are both detrimental to us and to our end users. Please take note as we will NOT be held responsible if your bulk SMS aren’t delivered.
Note: The above banned words are constantly updated. So the ones listed on this page are by no means exhaustive.
Thank you as you comply.
